Reputation Management May Benefit Microsoft & New Xbox

By Rob Sutter

As we enter a new generation of video game consoles, one has to wonder where the gaming masses will flock to. With the Nintendo Wii U currently out on the market, people seem to be anticipating the next title that will hit the console. In addition, some will wonder about the PlayStation 4 after the constant announcements made for it. However, I'm most concerned about Microsoft and the new Xbox. It's why I would recommend there be a good amount of reputation management seen.

As the rumors seem to say, there is to be a Microsoft event held in May regarding the new Xbox. While this is news, without question, I have to wonder if the slew of other rumors about the system holds any kind of validity. As I have read through all of them, I have to wonder if people are going to be so willing to invest in Microsoft's next console. I am sure there are going to be those who will be diehard Microsoft fans until the end but others may not be quite as willing.

If any or all of these rumors are true, I think that very few people are going to be happy about a console that has to be online all the time in order for it to be played. What if people do not feel like playing online or if the experience is merely single-player? It will not matter in the slightest, though, because it will have to remain connected to the Internet no matter what. The only reason that this exists - that I can think of - is for battling piracy, which is more of a hindrance than an actual measure.

What if these rumors prove to be exactly that after all? Even so, I can still see Microsoft being able to take up an agency such as fishbat so that it can clear up the shoddy name that it has at the moment. This is where I could see reputation management coming into play, in particular. It needs to be able to look better in the eyes of the gamer, whether or not the rumors prove to be true at the end of the day. If they are legitimate, though, then I am confident in saying that the company will not do well in contention with Nintendo and Sony.

I'm not one of those gamers who wish that the next Xbox will go down because, in all honesty, what will that do? I think that competition allows the gaming industry to stay healthy because it means that all competitors are going to work extra hard in order to be the best. It's why so many good products are brought out to the masses. If such competition suddenly stopped and fewer companies were seen, I can't imagine that the industry would be better because of it.
