DIY Fundraising Ideas To Raise Money Quickly

By Olivia Cross

There are lots of reasons that can pop up to raise some money in a timely manner and without lots of effort. Perhaps the money is needed urgently to help pay medical bills or to help a representing team in sports travel to some sort of tournament. No matter what the reason, there are a number of DIY fundraising ideas that can help contribute a small or large amount to the cause.

Check the time of year to see if there are any special days you can make use of in raising money. You can arrange a service that delivers singing telegrams for Mother's Day. Alternatively, buy some relevant items in bulk and deliver them by hand to customers' loved ones on Valentine's Day, like a single rose or candy and a card.

Everyone wants to live in a clean environment, but nobody really wants to do any cleaning outdoors. Organize a small group of people to pick up litter and leaves around the neighbourhood on a given day. Residents can give donations as a form of payment for a job well done.

When raising funds for a sports team, it's a good idea to keep the fundraising event in line with the theme. Perhaps help is needed with travel expenses for a team to participate in a tournament. Host a smaller tournament where others have the opportunity to challenge the sports team with their own team. They have to pay a small amount to challenge the team, and people can make donations to come and watch the match.

Traditional ways to raise money have included a car wash and also a bake sale. Find new and original ways to put a spin such ideas and make them even more fun. In the past, car washes have been made more appealing by having ladies in bikinis washing the vehicles. For a younger crowd, a bike wash is a good idea.

Everyone enjoys playing games, be it a board game or something more physical like Twister. It's also a really good way to get everyone to socialize while coming together for a cause. Host a games night where people pay to participate, either a standard amount at the door or they can pay smaller amounts for each game they want to play. Set up different areas where different types of games are played. Include card games, board games and group games like Charades or Pictionary as well. Provide refreshments for everyone.

To try and raise a little more money, think about doing something that lasts longer than a day or night in terms of asking for sponsorship or donations. Perhaps you can arrange a fun run and for the week leading up to it, runners can ask friends and family to pledge a certain amount for every mile they run. Alternatively, host a Quit-It event where participants have to drop a bad habit, like smoking, for a week or more and they get donations for every day they succeed.

The best way to raise money is always using the resources and skills at one's disposal. Get together a group of friends or like-minded individuals and brainstorm on what could be done with the skill set each person possesses. The more money that can be made without having to spend too much to execute the plan, the better.
