Premium Wood Pellets Vs Economy Ones Is The Question

By Marissa Velazquez

Large numbers of people appreciate the fire places they have. They want a warm home and they do not want a large electric or gas bill each month. Many of them want to be considered environmentally friendly, so they look into the premium wood pellets and those stoves that call for them. They see these as being easier to use and clean up after.

Business owners also like the idea of this type of fuel for their boilers and heating and cooling plants associated with their commercial buildings. Because of the formulation and construction of these orbs, it is easy to transport, store and move about in whatever facility is under discussion. This fuel source comes in bags, boxes, crates and truck loads.

The make up of premium wood pellets is slightly different than in the economy ones and can be seen in the color. They are composed of virgin softwood. This core is captured during normal wood processing for other things and debarked. It is then compressed into the cylinders that are recognizable as pellets. These have a fairly light color and look different than the darker economy ones.

These pellets have a very low moisture count which makes it easier for them to provide hotter temperatures and this also represents less ash to clean up. This is especially beneficial when dealing with the larger boilers at commercial plants and or multiple fireplaces in many large homes and in apartment complexes. This smaller amount of ash will be able to be used in landscaping efforts without having to concern the owner with environmental concerns.

An economy pellet, since they have a multitude of different wood fibers in them, will not burn as hot or as consistent as their premium cousins. This type of pellet will have waste wood, virgin material as well as other fibers combined and mashed together to create a darker version. They are also smaller and generate more ash to clean up.

Both types of pellet are used, in European countries, for bedding for their horses and many other stable animals. This helps to maintain a dry stall and prevents some diseases from being attracted to those beautiful mounts. Most of them will, of course, use the economy type because of costs, however, some of them like to use the higher quality as it has a better absorbency rate.

The granulated form of these pieces will allow them to be blown into the hoppers of many of the large commercial plants. This is almost necessary as some of these concerns will order a truck or rail car each week. The private purchases of this fuel can be accommodated by the bags that come in weights of between 25 and 150 pounds each.

Most modern wood pellet stove manufacturers require the use of premium wood pellets. These burn uniformly and do not interfere with any of the venting these stoves have for the proper operation of the unit. Many people do not notice the difference in the heat coming from a pellet stove as compared to a wood stove and they certainly appreciate the easier cleaning involved.
