Is Your Marketing Plan Successful?

By Vito La Fata

Do you have a marketing plan? Do you know how to create one? Do you struggle to come up with what should be in a marketing plan, strategy and campaign? If so, you're not alone. Most business owners in the fitness industry struggle with this, and it's the #1 reason why you feel pressure as an owner or face failure.

I am going to help you with your marketing plan by sharing with you some of the things that I coach my business clients with. It will help you as you begin laying out your marketing for the entire year. The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to change your mindset. You see, in order to be profitable, you must get past the idea that you want an easy sale. Rather, concentrate on the relationships that you build.

And building trust requires a little patience and the ability to get results and show that we deliver on what we promise, which is what most gyms do NOT do. If you are reading this, that's going to change for you. Your first goal with a new client is no longer going to be "let me sell them into my biggest packages," but rather, "let me take my client on a couple dates by using some smaller commitment programs that don't cost a lot, but deliver a huge value."

Another thing to keep in mind is that clients need easy ways to understand the science, behavior modification and health tips that will help them to transform themselves into fit people. However, as fitness professionals, we have to be careful with the "Curse of Knowledge."

The curse of knowledge refers to large amount of information that you have learned as a fitness professional. As a trainer, you have a lot of knowledge. You've been studying health and fitness for a long time and you know a lot. This knowledge is part of who you are and it is not difficult for you.

Well, when the average person faces something new and is bombarded with knowledge, it goes in one ear and out the other. But we want it to "stick." We want them to remember and follow all the steps that will make things better. So we need to be sure to present the information in easy to understand terms to them.
